House of Cards, Season 2

Title: Bathroom

Description: An amazing image, embodying the delicate and complex relationship between Frank (Kevin Spacey) and Claire Underwood (Robin Wright). Frank learns that a general, whom he is now to honor at a public ceremony, raped his wife when the two attended college together. The viewpoint, we take as observers, is extraordinary. After we witness him commit a murder to keep his own secrets, we are reminded of Frank’s genuine loyalty, compassion, and humanity. Or is it merely a double standard?

And just for fun, here’s a draft image of the drawing in Reckhenrich’s studio:

  1. That was a fascinating piece to draw. The whole setting is so delicate. Max Ernst wouldn’t do a better ambivalente scenario. We hope again for some good stuff and comments.

  2. Here is a quote I found in Shakespeare play Macbeth – the scottish play. I think the series has a lot do do with it.

“Only look up clear; to alter favour ever is to fear: leave all the rest to me.

The parallels between Hillary and Claire are numerous … and the pro-Hillary slogan takes on a new meaning in this context…

  4. ”Mirror, mirror on the wall, how did we become strangers to each other after all?”

    • Hey Langes what a great connection to the old fairytales. Seems to be old stuff is more modern as we thought

  5. “Fear is like backroom politics. It controls you.”

Sem Anne van Dijk – HKU University of the Arts Utrecht (Year 1)

  6. ‘This is not a bathroom’

  7. ‘Kill the lie. Kill the truth. Birth a secret’

  8. Stronger than lover’s love is lover’s hate. Incurable, in each, the wounds they make. – Medea, Euripides

  9. Is was me Jörg

  10. ”You people with hearts,’ he said once, ‘have something to guide you, and need never do wrong; but I have no heart, and so I must be very careful.”

    – L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

  11. The gift of looking into ones soul
Will protect your happiness from shattering
Upon the sight of a broken mirror

  12. Look at the piece next week. It seems we have the right one for the day of the day
