Cheshire Calhoun on Unknown Snowglobe

This is entry #43 in our 100 Philosophers, 100 Artworks, 100 Words Series.

Philosopher: Cheshire Calhoun, Arizona State University

Artwork: Unknown

Words: This is what looked like a humongous snow globe, filled with carved wooden figures, including a lineup of cows leaning on a rail and a little train that travels around inside under changing colored lighting. It is located at Jungfraujoch at the top of the highest alp in Switzerland in a hallway leading to a display of ice sculptures. Is it art? I don’t know. There are many oddly beautiful and wondrous things that rivet the eye and imagination and take one by surprise by being located where one would never expect art to be.
